We are a...

● Christ-centered: Jesus is the only way to God, so He is at the heart of all we do.

● Bible believing, teaching, and doing: The Bible is God’s inspired Word and our only source of authority for our life and practice.

● Non-denominational: We are an informal association of churches with no hierarchical denominational structure, conference, or office.

● Independent: The local congregation sets its own agenda and appoints its own pastors and leaders.

● Christian Church of the Restoration Movement: The Restoration Movement was a reform movement that took place on the American frontier in the 1800’s. Thomas Campbell, and his son, Alexander, were Scottish Presbyterian immigrants concerned with the division among churches that was weakening the impact of the church. They were frustrated to see Christians that were Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Congregational, etc., professing to follow the same Jesus, yet they could not get along with each other because they disagreed on certain doctrines, traditions, or creeds.

They believed that if Christians would use the Bible as the main source of authority instead of man-made traditions and creeds, and focus on what unites them (the essentials of the Christian faith) instead of what divides them (non-essential opinions), then that would unify the churches so that they can get back to the mission of sharing the hope of Jesus Christ with the world.

Those that joined their efforts dropped their denominational labels and called themselves simply “Christians.” They went back to the common practices of the early church, like believers baptism by immersion, sharing The Lord’s Supper (Communion) each Lord’s Day, and being led by a plurality of respected spiritual leaders called Elders.

The movement took off like wild fire throughout the 1800’s. Although it has had its setbacks and disappointments, the movement and the dream is still very much alive today, to where it is one of the fastest growing church association in the U.S.

A New Name: On September 1, 2008, Meadow Park Church of Christ officially changed its name to Hope Summit Christian Church. This is a early step in getting us ready for the move to the new SW property on Hope Summit Drive. We may be several years away from actually moving, but we are making progress.

Welcome to Hope2Offer!

Hope Summit Christian Church has embarked on an exciting journey. It's a journey of a lifetime. It's a journey that began when the church began some fifty years ago and will continue until Jesus returns in glory. Our part begins now as we consciously choose to live a life of purpose-to help as many people as possible BELIEVE in, BELONG to, and BECOME like Jesus.

The Hope2Offer Campaign is another step on this journey. As we grow our faith and grow our church we need to continue to grow our facility. This change, while difficult, is ultimately a gift from God. More than a journey of commitment, giving and stewardship, Hope2Offer is truly a journey of spiritual growth.

Thank you for being part of our journey at Hope Summit Christian Church. We sincerely pray that Jesus Christ will be glorified in all that we do as we grow and continue to share with the world the HOPE He has to OFFER.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." (Romans 15:13)

Worship Team Core Values - Worship Core Values

Mark 12:28-34: . . . he asked [Jesus], "Which commandment is the first of all?" Jesus answered, "The first is, Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with your entire mind, and with all your strength"

A healthy and balanced worship lifestyle follows Jesus' answer about the greatest commandments. We must love God and others this way...with all our ...Heart (our choices)...Mind (our thoughts)...Soul (our feelings and emotions)...Strength (our body i.e. our actions)

To find a balance in our worship services we always ask these questions: Was our heart convicted? Was there a call to change? Was the mind engaged? Was there an opportunity for our intellect to be stretched? Was the soul inspired? Was there ample opportunity for an outflow of our emotions and expressions of gratitude to God Was our strength challenged? Did we physically express our worship and honor of God

The Five P's of the Hope Summit's Worship Ministry
• Prayerful: I will prepare for my ministry by maintaining my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I will also support the worship ministry by prayer for the church, the worship team and individuals I will be working with
• Purposeful: I will cooperate with all other ministries of the church for the common good and purpose of the whole body of Christ.
• Passionate: I will bring God my best offering of worship and praise.
• Perpetual: I will seek personal growth and education opportunities by attending workshops, classes, and reading articles provided by the worship ministry and team leaders.
• Prepared: I will attend scheduled team rehearsals for team development. I will continue to develop my gifts and talents, (personal rehearsal time)

Worship and Arts Ministry at Hope Summit - Worship

Hope Summit believes in the importance of gathering together in a corporate worship setting to encourage and build up each other. New and old Hymns, Modern praise songs and Choruses are all used to lead all worshipers before the Throne of Christ each week. Many forms of the arts are used such as dramas, special solo and ensemble musical arrangements, testimonies, dramatic Scripture readings, and the creative use of multimedia production. All are used to bring honor and glory to God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ through the power of His Holy Spirit.

Was there ample opportunity for an outflow of our emotions and expressions of gratitude to GodWas our strength challenged? Did we physically express our worship and honor of God

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--His good, pleasing and perfect will". Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:16-17

The purpose of Servants' Hands is to meet some material needs of those in our church community and those we are trying to reach around us with unconditional love in ways such as meals when someone is sick, rides to and from church or bible study, clothing, groceries, house chores and yard chores. Servants' Hands is a great opportunity for families to serve together, teaching our kids how to serve others.

In His Name - Food Distribution
Kevin White, 288-3293 kwhite@hopesummitcc.com
This food distribution ministry takes place on the 4th Saturday of each month. Hope
Summit serves as the host site for over 20 churches who are involved in this ministry. We receive a truckload of food from a warehouse in the Twin Cities every 4th Saturday, and it arrives between 8:30 and 9:00. Volunteers unload the truck and pack the boxes from 9:00-11:00 a.m. People and churches pick up their boxes between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. For a nominal charge of $10 per box, people receive about $80 worth of food that includes a lot of fresh produce, dairy, bakery, canned goods, and some meat. More volunteers are always welcome and needed.

Casa de Paz

Below is a letter from Casa de Paz, discussing volunteer opportunities.

Dear churches who are great friends of Casa de Paz!
We have some pressing needs at Casa which I think could be comfortably met if picked up by one or more 'pools' of new helpers, particularly driving helpers.

Casa de Paz is a non denominational evangelical Christian outreach located in Parkside Mobile Estates, off Marion Road, serving at risk kids in SE Rochester. Most of our kids live in families experiencing difficult challenges. A few of the kids don't know exactly where they will sleep night to night, many almost never sit down to meals at a table with family, many don't know their dads, and very few attend a traditional church. However they and their families choose Casa as a Christian environment after school where worship and Bible time are included daily.

We hope to find two or more people interested in each of the following service opportunities. Each 'team' of two or more could cover a weekly or monthly job between them. A onetime Q and A and orientation to ministry at Casa would be necessary. The kids really need you. A new God and Game Night has started at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. We are looking for at least one dad or granddad who would agree to spend one Friday evening a month providing a ride to (and supervision during) this activity for a couple of Casa boys aged 9 to 15. You could also bring your own sons or grandsons to enjoy this really fun game night with Super Monopoly.

A Rwandan Bible College student from Crossroads College has volunteered to help every Wednesday approximately 4:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. from now through early May. He has no car and needs a ride from Crossroads to Casa, a 5 minute car trip, each Weds. A ride back is also needed but the ride TO Casa is first priority.

A seven year old boy who is repeating first grade needs a ride every Wednesday school day at 5:00 p.m. from Ben Franklin school, 20th Street SE, TO Casa. He can't afford to miss his specific after school homework help at Ben Franklin but also really wants to continue to participate in Boys' Nights, which are Wednesdays, at Casa. A regular weekly face (with a substitute setup for sick days) would be most comforting for this little guy.

Friday 4 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. is one day of the week not covered by the public "after school academy" so it promises to be extra busy at Casa this year. We need adults and teens willing to serve one or more Fridays of your choice per month, giving elementary homework help, playing board games, being a compassionate friend, holding the end of a jump rope etc. Also driving help would be much appreciated, picking up one or more kids at one of our three schools and bringing to Casa and/or bringing them home at 6:15 p.m.

Help on Wednesdays after school, some Friday evenings for Girls' Night, and some Sundays, noon to 3:00 p.m. for Sunday School would also be very welcome. We currently have pretty much no substitute pool to draw on at this time.

So...what is the First Impressions Ministry?

Typically you think of it as a person or persons greeting you on Sunday Morning, handing you a Worship Bulletin, serving Communion and passing the trays for the Tithes and Offerings. Yes, these are three of many things that are a part of our First Impressions Ministry.
We are also eyes and ears providing information and assistance for our fellow worshipers. We greet everyone with a warm smile and we assist people in finding a seat in the worship service. We also welcome our first time visitors at our guest center and provide them with a special gift.

We will be adding new areas of service such as serving our guests a fresh cup of coffee in our new café, parking lot greeters, team leaders and more.

Maybe this is an area that God has gifted you to serve in. You don’t have to serve alone - we have husbands, wives, and children serving together. We have Junior High, High School, and college age students, young adults and seniors who serve. All of these are part of a ministry that is focused on making a good first impressions with our guests.

“Transforming lives into Christ-like disciples”
Colossians 1:28 says, “We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.” This verse gives the Biblical basis for the purpose of the Adult Ministries at the Hope Summit Christian Church. Simply stated, the purpose of the Adult Ministry is “to provide opportunities that will guide people on their spiritual journey, transforming their lives into Christ-like disciples.” God wants every believer to develop the character of Christ. The ultimate goal of a disciple is to become like Jesus.
Adult Ministry focuses in these four areas to fulfill its purpose:
Weekend and weekday Adult Bible FellowshipsLife GroupsLife Development Classes or seminars on prayer, parenting, stewardship, marriage enrichment, etc

Each of these areas aim at a different target of a balanced program of discipleship:
Know the Word of God (Knowledge)
Have the Mind of Christ (Perspective)
Have the Heart of God (Conviction)
Do all to the Glory of God (Skill)
Have the Character of God (Character)
The Adult Bible Fellowship classes target “Knowledge” and “Perspective.”
Life Development Classes or seminars target “Skills” development.
Small Groups target “Character” and incorporate all five of the purposes of the church in their structure (Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry, and Evangelism).

What is Christianity? - What is Christianity?

Many people go their whole lives without knowing the truth of Jesus Christ and what it means to be His follower. They exist year after year without God in their life, with no idea of how to live or for what purpose they have been created. Maybe you have tried to find happiness and fulfillment through acquiring possessions or wealth, tried to escape through the use of drugs and alcohol, or tried to find peace through various religions or self-help programs. All of these will fail without knowing and accepting the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

The Human Dilemma

Let's start at the beginning. According to the Bible, we are created in the image of God. We are designed to have a personal relationship with Him, but because of sin we are separated from God. God has given us a will and the freedom of choice. It is we who choose to disobey God and go our own willful way. We make these choices each and everyday. There is God's way and our way. God loves you and wants you to experience peace and life - abundant and eternal. Our way leads to sin and "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23a), but God's way leads to life, "but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23b). Sin is a real problem and all of us are guilty of it. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

Many of us have tried to bridge the gap between God and ourselves. We have given up our bad habits, tried to do more good than bad, and tried other religions. We have said things like, "If I am a good person then I will go to Heaven" and "If I go to church enough then I am a Christian". "There is a way that seems right to man, but in the end it leads to death" (Proverbs 14:12). There is nothing that we can do to save ourselves.

Jesus Christ is the only bridge between man and God. "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). The Bible is very clear on this issue. In John 14:6, Jesus states that "I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me". What is the solution to the human dilemma? Read on and find out.

God's Solution

The solution is found in Jesus Christ. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save the world through him" (John 3:16-17). God has provided the way. The good news is that God sent us His son to restore our relationship with Him. Jesus Christ gave His life as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of mankind by dying on the cross. He then rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. "For Christ died for our sins, once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God" (1 Peter 3:18). Jesus paid the penalty for our sin and bridged the gap between God and His people.

Now you have a choice, you can reject the message "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God" (1 Corinthians 1:18). Or you can accept the message "We are made right in God's sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we can all be saved in this same way, no matter who we are or what we have done" (Romans 3:22 - NLT). Which choice will you make? Your way or God's way? Which will you decide? Your response to this question is the most important decision you will make in this lifetime. Will you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord?

Our Response

To receive the gift of eternal life you must first believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son of God, who died for your sins, rose from the dead, and is alive today. "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12).

If you believe in Jesus Christ, that is great! Now what you need to do is repent of your sins. The Bible teaches us that this is a honest and genuine change of heart about sin, a turning from your ways to God's way, and essential if we want to receive the gift. "Now turn from your sins and turn to God, so you can be cleansed of your sins" (Acts 3:19).

Now it is time to match our repentance with confession. To acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord whenever and wherever called upon. "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in Heaven". Matthew 10:32. It is to acknowledge Him verbally and publicly. "For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9).

Once you have acknowledged that Jesus Christ is Lord, baptism by immersion is the tangible way of showing that you trust Him alone for your salvation. "And now, why delay? Get up and be baptized, and have your sins washed away, calling on the name of the Lord" (Acts 22:16). Some say that baptism is an outward symbol of an internal action. It is to be sure a symbol, a symbol that you are committed to Christ, but it also represents the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. "For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead" (Colossians 2:12).

Once you have received Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are born into God's family through the work of the Holy Spirit who dwells in every believer. This is commonly referred to as being "born again". "I assure you, unless you are born again, you can never see the Kingdom of God" (John 3:3). Now you are a Christian and a new creation in Jesus Christ. "What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun! All this newness of life is from God, who brought us back to himself through what Christ did. And God has given us the task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others" (2 Corinthians 5:17-19). When a person receives the glorious message of Jesus Christ, their life will never be the same. We pray that God will bless your life as you grow closer to Him and know His wonderful and perfect love that He has for you. Please let us know if you have any questions or would like to be baptized. We are excited about your interest in our church family!

We want you to know up front that we are not a perfect church because we are made up of imperfect people. The good news is, God loves imperfect people, and we love imperfect people. That's what makes our fellowship so special. Everyone is welcome!

We are trying our best to be the kind of church that God wants us to be. Our vision is to be an authentic biblical community transforming our community with the hope of Jesus Christ.

The dictionary defines "authentic" as "that which can be believed or accepted, genuine, real, true to its type, conforming to an original style, method, etc." Therefore, to be an authentic biblical community we are to conform to God's original intention for His church.

We live in a culture that promotes image over substance and character. Politicians and the media are continually trying to paint images that are confusing and untrue. More and more people are finding it hard to discern what is true and what is not. Our culture longs for someone to be genuine and real. They long for authentic people.

The church has the opportunity to be an authentic representation of God's love in the world. God wants all people to be restored to a healthy relationship with Him and to each other. He has created the church to be His lighthouse of hope. That is why we want to be an authentic biblical community that genuinely represents Jesus Christ and His teachings.

What was the early church like? We get a glimpse of the early church in the Bible: "They devoted themselves to the apostle's teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone was he had a need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved" (Acts 2:42-47).

Together, we're striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible, where there's relevant teaching, heart-felt worship, honest friendships, constant prayer, and compassionate care for those in need. In short, we'd like to have the kind of contagious Christianity that can influence and encourage the entire community, one life at a time.

So whether you're a spiritual seeker who's just starting to ask questions about God, or a committed Christian who wants to sink the roots of your faith even deeper, you can find a home here at Hope Summit Christian Church.

Our Vision - Our Vision

The Apostle Paul wrote, "This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe" (1 Tim 4:9-10)

Jesus Christ is the hope of the world and we believe that God wants us to share that hope with the world. Therefore, our vision is an authentic biblical community transforming our world with the hope of Jesus Christ.

Vision Details:

► We envision a place where the hurting, the depressed, the frustrated, and the confused can find love, acceptance, help, hope, forgiveness, guidance, and encouragement.

► We envision lives transformed, sinners forgiven, marriages saved, the addicted free, the abused whole, the lonely loved, the lost found, the depressed encouraged, the sick healed, and those in despair with hope.

► We envision children learning about Jesus, youth developing their faith, singles growing in their love for the Lord, families developing healthy relationships, married couples modeling a Godly marriage, and the elderly living out their purpose in life.

► We envision weekly worship services that are honoring to God and inspiring to each person that attends.

► We envision hundreds of small groups meeting in homes providing places for people to share life together and to minister to their neighborhoods.

► We envision developing people to spiritual maturity through Bible studies, small groups, seminars, retreats, and a Bible school for our members.

► We envision equipping every believer for a significant ministry by helping them develop the gifts and talents God gave them.

► We envision people sharing their faith with their friends and family and inviting them to their small groups and/or church services or events.

► We envision planting and supporting regional and global churches focused on reaching un-reached people groups.

► We envision hundreds of people participating in local outreach events and global mission trips to share the hope of Christ with others.

► We envision a new church campus, on which will be built a regional church for Olmsted County and SE Minnesota - with beautiful, yet simple, facilities including a worship center, a counseling and prayer center, classrooms for Bible studies and training lay ministers, a children's ministry center, a regional youth center, and a Missions mobilization center.

Our Beliefs - Our Beliefs

We do not hold to any particular creed or systematic theology. We believe that it is essential that we continually study and follow God's Word as we seek the truth in all matters of faith and life.We believe in one God, Creator and Sustainer of the universe, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-3; 14:6-20).

We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died for our sins, arose from the dead and now reigns with God in heaven. (John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8).

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a gift from God to empower believers to live the Christian life (John 16:5-10; Acts 2:38; Romans 8:1-17; 1 Corinthians 12).

We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

We believe that every person has worth as a creation of God, but all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Genesis 1:26,27; 3:1-3; Romans 3:23).

We believe that forgiveness of sins and eternal life are available to those who place their faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Romans 5:1; Ephesians 2:8-9).

We believe that faith in Christ is expressed by believing in Jesus Christ, repenting of your sins, confessing Christ as Savior and Lord, and being baptized by immersion into Christ (Acts 2:38; Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9; Galatians 3:25-27; 1 Peter 2:20-21).

We believe that it is essential to live a committed Christian life after accepting God's gift of salvation (Romans 6:1-14; Ephesians 5:1-21; Colossians 3:1-17).

We believe that the Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit and exists to exalt God, evangelize the lost, and encourage, edify, and equip the saved (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:36-47).

We believe that Jesus Christ will one day return to gather those who followed Him to their eternal destiny in heaven and to condemn those who did not follow Him to their eternal destiny in hell (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

Please Note: There are many other bible passages that could be referenced for each belief. This is not meant to be an exhaustive list of references.

Our Mission - Our Mission

After His resurrection, Jesus met with His eleven main disciples to give them His last minute instructions. He was going to leave soon to go be with His Father in heaven and wanted His followers to know what they were to do while He was gone. He said to them, ". . . go and make disciples in all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and then teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you; and be sure of this-that I am with you always, even to the end of the world" (Mt 28:19-20). Jesus wanted His disciples to share His message of hope with as many people as possible. This hope could be experienced when people believed in Jesus (Jn 3:16) and lived the way that He lived (Jn 15:5-8). This mission is still the mission of the church today!

Our mission is to help as many people as possible believe in, belong to, and become like Jesus.

A Place to Believe

Everyone longs for something to believe in. Our culture says that it's OK to believe in anything. Yet, there are so many people searching for something that will provide something more; something that will provide answers for the questions of life. Some try power, fame, money, or pleasure in order to fill this void in their souls, but they still haven't found what they are looking for. We believe the answer is Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6). Jesus came to lead us back to God. When we see Jesus we see God. He is God in the flesh. He came to reveal to us what God is like. In Jesus, we see a God who loves His creation; we see a God who has compassion of those who struggle in life; we see a God who stands up for the underdogs; we see a God who stands up against injustice; we see a God who was willing to do whatever it takes in order to solve our sin problem; we see a God who was willing to die so that we may have life. Jesus also helps us understand who we are and why we are here and where we are going. Jesus is the answer to all of life's questions. He is truly someone (not something) to believe in!

A Place to Belong

We live in a technologically advanced society. Everyday we learn of a new break through or a new device that will help improve our lives. However, even though we are able to communicate through the internet to virtually anywhere in the world, we are some of the loneliest people on earth. Jesus said, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:34-35). God created the church to be a place for people to experience encouragement, acceptance, guidance, accountability, and most importantly, love. We want to be a place where people can experience a loving, spiritually family. We want to build each other up in the faith. We want to pick each other up when we fall. We want to hold each other up when we experience those tough times. We want to spur one another on towards love and good deeds. We want to experience the Christian life together!

A Place to Become

God has a dream for our lives. From the time we were conceived, God has dreamed about what we could be. He dreams about having a personal relationship with us. He dreams about us experiencing His presence in our life. He dreams about us experiencing forgiveness, wholeness, purpose, meaning, fulfillment, healthy relationships, holiness, and hope. He dreams that we will be with Him in heaven. This dream will come true when a person receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus said "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10). We want to be a place where we can become what God has always dreamed we can be. It is a place to grow closer to God. It is a place to become more like Christ. It is a place to use our God given abilities to serve His purposes and to serve others. It is a place to share our faith. It is a place to experience true life.

Hope Summit Christian Church began as an idea in the mind of Frank Myers back in the 1950's. Frank was the pastor of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ in Pleasant Grove, MN. He dreamed of starting a New Testament church in the growing city of Rochester, MN. He noticed that there were a number of families driving out each weekend from the Rochester area to attend the worship services at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and their sister church, the Marion Church of Christ, in Marion, MN. After making contacts and casting his vision for starting a new church, a group of Christian men and woman met for the first time on October 7, 1956, at the new 4-H Building on the Olmsted County Fairgrounds. Thirty-five people were listed as charter members.

In July of 1957, Willard Hockley was called to minister at the new church. The group decided to relocate to the Rolling Greens sub-division, a new residential area in Northwest Rochester. They built a beautiful parsonage/chapel at 1919 33rd Street NW. Worship took place in the basement. The name of the church was changed to Rolling Greens Church of Christ. The congregation soon outgrew its building.

In January of 1960, the congregation purchased the Grace Lutheran Chapel at 11th Avenue and 5th Street SE. The church's name was changed to the East Side Church of Christ. A parsonage was also purchased in a nearby location at 1525 4th Street NE. The church enjoyed healthy growth.

Willard Hockley resigned in 1963 and was followed by John Barry. John served the congregation from September 1, 1963 to August 30, 1964.

Eugene Reynolds became pastor and served from September of 1964 to June of 1969. During these years the congregation outgrew the building. Attendance was running 130 on some Sundays in a worship room which seated only about 110. Two services were begun until larger facilities could be built.

The church members began a building fund, commissioned a new building committee, and prayed a lot. At a time when there were little financial resources and they were paying on a mortgage on both the current church building and parsonage, the members were able to purchase the acreage they needed. Plans materialize, ground breaking occurred, and new construction proceeded. It was a very exciting time.

On Sunday morning, August 1968, the members met for the last time at the East Side location. They formed a caravan and traveled towards their new church home at 1315 6th Avenue SE. On November 8, 1968, the new Meadow Park Church of Christ was dedicated to the service of the Lord.

Eugene Reynolds closed his ministry with the congregation in June of 1969. Aurthur Poll, Sr., served a brief interim ministry from June until August 1969. The congregation called James McWaters as pastor. He served from August 1969 to the Spring of 1975.

Ron Wernimont became the pastor in the Fall of 1975. During Ron's tenure, the church experienced tremendous growth. The church developed multiple ministries, eventually adding an Associate Minister of Education, a Youth Minister, and a full time secretary.

In 1984, the new growth forced the need to expand the building site. The result was the building of the multipurpose Family Center and the Education Wing.

The church continued to experience steady growth through the 80's and 90's. Global outreach has been at the heart of soul of our congregation for many years. During this time, the Faith Promise became an exciting annual event as people pledged in faith their commitments to sponsor missionaries and their families ministering to people all over the world. Because of this commitment, the church was able to send out one of its own youth, Tom Moen, to become a missionary in Brazil with his wife, Amy. They recently completed 12 years on the mission field and are now serving in the States.

One of the unique and exciting events to take place in the mid-90's was when a group of Lahu families decided to worship with the church. The Lahu people immigrated from Thailand and Laos after the Vietnam War. This particular group became Christians through the influence of a missionary. The Lahu are a delightful people, and continue to hold weekly worship services on Sunday in their native language.

Because of the continued growth and the addition of the Lahu families, the church outgrew its seating capacity, so multiple worship services were added to keep up with the space demands.

Pastor Ron retired in 1998, leaving a 23 year legacy of spiritual and church growth along with compassionate pastoral care.

On January 1, 2000, Aaron Wager became the Senior Pastor. Aaron brought with him a passion to reach out to those who are not Christians. We continued to grow and in 2001, moved into the Family Center for the weekend worship services.

During the last few years, the church has added a full time Worship Pastor, Children's Pastor, Adult Ministries Pastor, Youth Pastor, Office Administrator and Custodian. The church also added a part-time Kid's Hope Director (Children's mentoring program).

In October of 2006, the church celebrated its 50th Anniversary and launched its vision for the next 50 years. This vision was called The H2O Campaign. H2O stands for "Hope 2 Offer." The church purchased 20 acres of land on 48th Street SW, across the street from the Willow Creek Golf Course. The church will eventually relocate to this new property as it continues to share the hope of Christ with the community. In order to get ready for the move to the SW property, the name was changed to Hope Summit Christian Church on September 1, 2008.

God has blessed our church through the years and is continuing to bless as it moves into the future. We are excited about what God is doing!

One theme will be repeated throughout a month of lessons, such as "God Made Families", "God Keeps Us Safe", and "We Thank God". This ministry uses Plays and Skits to re-emphasize a particular theme in the service. Some are very humorous and others have a very serious tone and some combine a variety of emotions to make very powerful and meaningful statements about life situations that all of us face. Dramatic Scripture Readings and Testimonies also are part of this team.

The youngest children visit Noah's Park during the weekend services. This is a place where quality care is a priority and where God's love is demonstrated to the children every time they visit. Our nursery workers will play, read, sing, and talk with your children. We believe that every child is a blessing from God and it is a privilege for us to minister to them.

Promiseland is designed to teach our children biblical truths in a relevant and creative way during our weekend services. This is done through activity stations, large group time that may include a drama, skit, singing and lesson as well as a small group time where children and leaders experience God's love through building relationships with one another. More importantly it will be a time where the children will grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. We want Sunday mornings to be the best hour of a child's week.
